Rain vs. Snow

Two days before Christmas, it rained today. A lot. I wondered, “What would this be like if the temperature were below freezing?” Water loses density when it freezes, by a factor of about 9%. A general meteorological statement is that 1 inch of rain equals 10 inches of snow, depending on its “fluffiness.” 10 inches? Now that would be white Christmas.
