Her Lawful Response

Peter S. Stevens’ explained the shapes that nature creates in his book from 1974, “Patterns in Nature.” Admittedly, his words reached beyond my comprehension when he used engineering formulas to illustrate how mathematicians and artists alike create designs that also match those built by natural forces.

But his words I did comprehend when he proved a principle many other humans cannot seem to grasp. With the brevity and clarity of a genius he wrote, “The warning is clear: nature never conforms precisely to our simple models; she introduces modifications as dictated by her lawful response to a multiplicity of demands.”
