Friday’s Resource: Perseverance

One hundred. That’s the number of posts so far on Today’s Walk. I have walked 100 walks.

Do I have the readership I envisioned? No way. Are my legs muscles better toned? Absolutely not. I’ve got much more work to do, outside of this routine, to meet other personal goals. But as far as the primary intention of this endeavor–to connect to the natural world that surrounds me–all that I lack in exposure and physical fitness is completely overshadowed by a sense of calm, one that comes from tuning into what’s happening in the place most important to me: the outdoors.

I know what’s out there 100 times better than I did back in October. And with that comes the excitement of wondering, What will I learn in the next 100 walks?

From this experience, I offer you a piece of advice on yet another resource Friday: Persevere. Stick to it. It’s not easy. Many days I ran out the door, giving myself barely enough time before I had to shower for my next appointment. Some days I had to grab myself by the coat collar and drag me back inside. It’s been cold and windy for much of my excursions so far, and soon it will be hot and buggy. But never, ever, have I regretted taking at least 30 minutes to do what I want to do most.

Life pulls us into actions that don’t suit our intentions. Decide and plot out time each day to do what YOU love. Then, when life tempts you into thinking you don’t want to do it, do it anyway. You’ll be glad you did.
