Afterward

I find a profound sense of peace in the woods in the hours following a storm. Such was true today at dusk, when everything dripped with relief. Rain that had been temporarily held in the leafless canopy began to release into a soft, syncopated patter on the saturated floor. I heard the cardinal’s quiet “took” as it emerged to feed among the soggy branches. The deluge was over. Phew. Peace.

A blurred, post-storm shot in the near-dark dusk.
