There is a point during these low-angled days of winter when the sun blinds me at my desk. I can shield my eyes if I sit uncomfortably to the left or raise my right hand to the sky. I never lower the blinds, for that would shut out the pleasure of the solar heat. The best thing I can do, I have found, is to give in. Like the pesky neighborhood kid who wouldn’t stop banging on doors until a kickball game ensued, the sun begs me to come outside. And doing so always turns out to be the happiest and healthiest choice.
