Three weeks into the spring, after a series of warm days, the daffodils in my yard are finally blooming. However, bloom time is determined by one’s position in the sun. The former homeowners planted a long row of these garden-variety Narcissus bulbs along the property line. The line begins in a sunny spot and ends in shade. Like slow-motion notes of a descending piano scale, from right to left (front to back in the photo) the happy yellow flowers are coming to life.
I don’t know anyone whose mood doesn’t shine when the sun finally hits, especially in the days following winter, which this year came after a rainy fall, a rainy summer, and a rainy spring. Will 2019 be different? No one knows. We best enjoy the flowers while the rays are here to make the smiles bloom.
