This blog started as a personal challenge to walk outside, every day, in all kinds of weather. Like many worthwhile objectives, it started out well, then faded with time. I could give you a lot of excuses, but the truth is, I continue to get outside nearly every single day.
In the spring of 2019, a violent, straight-line wind storm hit. In the aftermath, I found myself doing something unimaginable. And I’m still at it today. Added to my schedule on an average of three days a week, I work on a two-person team that currently makes up the grounds crew for a local Arborist. Not only am I able to be outside, I’m getting paid for it. And we work in almost all kinds of weather.
The sad part is, I’ve been too tired and too busy to keep up with posting any of the daily observations that come. Yet, they still come. Many of them now reside in the form of scribbled lines in a clutter of pages on my writing desk.
Meanwhile, the company, like most others in the U.S., is hiring. If you are tired of sitting at a desk every day or if you need more ecological purpose behind the physical work you do, contact Jacobs Tree Surgery to find out more. The work is rarely pretty; instead, it’s rather grueling. In other words, the open position is not for the faint of heart, but the challenge could be good for the soul.
for the last 16 years I have worked at Clemmers Music, full time. I have walked or rode my bike everyday . (except when I was involved in elder parent care for about 10 mos. used car, used treadmill ) there is a blessed bike path near my house that leads right to where i need to go. I am grateful for my job, but it is a job. My walks and rides are like paradise. I think its a big part of why I still like my job. In Zen there is a phrase translated “forest gazing” i.e. SEEING GREEN! It is therapeutic!
